extra time in Italy

Hi - we will be traveling in Italy before a cruise around Italy. We will have already visited Rome, Cinque Terra, Venice and Florence. Our cruise leaves from Venice...we are wondering what to see in four days (between Florence and Venice) before the cruise leaves. Any suggestions? Many thanks,

You don't say what time of year you're going, which could affect recommendations. That said, we really loved Verona. We were there last year for three nights in May and are going back next year for five nights. (We will have a car to do daytrips to the surrounding areas.) We stayed at Residenza Carducci which I can't recommend highly enough. If by "four days" you mean "three nights", you can easily spend them all in Verona, with optional easy daytrips by train to places such as Padova (Padua) and Mantova (Mantua). Here are some photos from our time there in May 2011, in case you're interested.

I really like Verona, located about an hour train ride from Venice. If you want to experience a lake, I've heard that Lake Garda is really nice. It isn't too far from Verona and can probably be done as a day trip from there.

Verona is lovely, but I would recommend you look into Ravenna. Beautiful early Christian churches with mosaics, a mosaic school, and a beautiful atmosphere. You could also do it as a daytrip from another city. I also love Ferrara.
