Extra days in Sicily after RS Tour - suggestions

My spouse and I are taking a RS Tour to Sicily this October. The tour starts in Palermo and ends in Catania and our flight home leaves from the latter airport. We decided to stay 3 extra days. The choice is to stay in Catania, book extra hotel room days, or move to a different city location for two nights, then come back to Catania for one last night, and fly home the next morning (am flight).

The tour does have its typical one day at Mt. Etna, one day at Taormina. But, I'm wondering if anyone else has done this very tour, and extended like we are doing? Or perhaps someone is familiar enough with the eastern part of Sicily to recommend whether its worth sleeping in a different city, or just spending the time exploring Catania in greater depth or maybe taking a day trip or two? However, we are not thrilled with getting our own car and driving. Fortunately, we have no significant health problems so there are no limitations of that nature.

Thanks for any suggestions.

We spent ten wonderful, self-drive, days in Sicily last September. Loved every minute and would happily return. Suggestions for two extra days would be: Ortigia; Ragusa (especially if you can visit nearby Modica); and Agrigento. Agrigento is farther but the Valley of the Temples, at sunset, the nearby view of the Scala del Turchi and lovely beach plus awesome food made it a favorite for us.

Thank you!

Fortunately, the tour goes to Agrigento! But, not to Ragusa or Modica. Maybe I’ll see about hiring a car.

Cheers

If you have a car, you could easily drive to Ragusa for two nights, and from there do a day drive to Modica-Scicli-(maybe Donnalucata too?), before returning to Catania for the last night. Enjoy!
