Hello,
We have extended 3 nights in our RS hotel in Rome at the end of our tour. We will have seen the coliseum, Palatine hill, Heart of Rome walk, vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel. I also would like to visit the Borghese Gallery. I am looking for suggestions for the using the extra days. Rick Steve tours suggests Capucin Crypt, the Apian Way. Other....? Thanks.
Romantic sunset - rooftop of the Hotel Eden and Hotel Raphael
San Silvestro Church off via del Gambero - the skull of St John the Baptist. Walk out the side door to find a chocolate shop with limoncello chocolates - the best !
best gelato - Giolitti on via Uffici del Vicario, 40
Birreria Peroni on via di San Marcello, 19 - a 1500's beer hall
Trastavere walk to enjoy the alleys and coffee bars..San Francesco a Ripa church with Bernini's last carving before he died
Scala Santa - Holy Stairs and then walk up Via Merulana - beautiful tree lined street to Panella L'Arte del Pane for great pastries.
Walk through the lovely Santa Maria Maggiore church and the San Pietro in Vincoli church
You might enjoy some smaller churches with great art: San Luigi dei Francesi (Caravaggios), Santa Maria Sopra Minerva (look for tombs of the Medici, Fra Angelico, others); San Clemente for beautifully restored mosaics and two lower levels; and near Santa Maria Maggiore, Santa Prassede.
Go to the Gianicolo in Trastevere for views of Roma, and to the roof of the Vittorio Emanuele monument for closer views and well-labeled panoramic photos so you know what you are seeing.
Be sure to go to the top of the Victor Emmanuel Monument. The view from the top is the best view of Rome.
Perhaps a trip out to Ostia Antica. Should only take 3/4 of a day or so and is very accessible using public transit. I think they are closed on Mondays, but I could be wrong so check beforehand.
Second TC's recommendation of a visit to Ostia Antica. Also, do you enjoy Food tours? There are some good ones offered in Rome. Eatingitaly.com is one company that comes to mind. We really enjoyed the one for the Testaccio district and I have heard good things about the one for Trastevere, too.
I second the Eating Italy food tours- the Trastevere for Foodies tour was worth every penny last summer! Our tour guide introduced me to places I would not have found on my own or in a guidebook and it was fun to meet people from all over the world on the tour. The Borghese is a great choice, and seeing the smaller churches with fabulous artwork. So many choices- have fun!

Sorry I have to disagree vehemently. My personal favorite is Come il Latte near the U.S. Embassy, but Katie Parla's List is very good. Gelato alle Teatro near Piazza Navona was a go-to for us in the historic center.
I have to go back now and try more gelato places !!
Another great gelato place is Frigiderium near Piazza Navona. Also, I have always wated to go to the Parco Acquadetti (sp) in southern Rome which has part of the Appian way plus great sections of the aquaduct.
