Extra day in Rome or Sorrento?

It is our 1st time in Italy and we are getting married in Pienza in July. Due to filling out of pre-wedding paperwork, we need to be in Italy many days before the wedding. So our honeymoon is both before, and after the wedding.

My concern is this: right now we are spending 2 days in Rome before the wedding, and 3 days in Sorrento after the wedding. Since we can only go for 2 weeks, I'm wondering if we should add another day to the 1st part of our trip to have an extra day in Rome, and take away a day to have one less day in Sorrento? We're not big on going to museums - maybe some but we're not going to museum hop - we just want to take int he culture and wander around. Any thoughts on this?

Definitely take the 3rd day in Rome if possible. There is so much to see and do, you can see so many beautiful things in Rome without ever setting foot in a museum. And Rome at night--the best! Sorrento is lovely, but Rome has so much more....
I'm curious about your post. If you have never been to Italy before why have you chosen to do such a special event here? What was the big draw? In any case, auguri e vivi gli sposi!

Rome is my favorite city in Italy so I would probably spend the extra day there. But I'm into museums and Roman history. However, since it will be your honeymoon, Sorrento would probably be there better choice. While both places are romantic and exciting, Sorrento will be more relaxing and you can actually spend time honeymooning rather than sight seeing.

Thank you for your posts. My fiance' is Italian and his grandparents are from there. He's sentimental about it and I've always wanted to go. Quite frankly, I prefer to get the wedding out of the way in the U.S. so I can just relax in Italy and not have to drag my dress there! :-)

Since you are on your honeymoon I would definitely add the day in Sorrento. Sipping wine or limoncello overlooking the bay of Naples or the Amalfi coast (or into his eyes) for an extra day seems to just be about as perfect as it gets for a honeymoon. I would think once you are married you will return often and can delve much more deeply into Rome then. The only reason I would choose Rome would be to have an audience with the Pope if you can't fit it in on one of the other days. You can attend a special audience if you are wearing your wedding attire. If you are unaware of this check details at santasusanna.org.
