Exploring Alpe di Siusi without using chairlifts

We’ll be spending 3 nights in Ortesei in June. My husband doesn’t like chair lifts, so I’m trying to plan our days around using funiculars and gondolas only. I had planned to take the Mont Seuc gondola from Ortesei to Alpe di Siusi. But it looks like there are limited trails up there that don’t require taking a chairlift back UP to the gondola, or a pretty steep walk up. I think we could enjoy the view from the gondola station restaurant, and explore a little bit along the ridge. But is there a better way to explore the plateau?

We will have a car, so we could drive to Compatch early, before the gates close. If we did this, are there easy walks that don’t require using a chair lift? Could we plan to take the bus instead?

Aside from Alpe di Siusi, we are planning to take the gondolas to Col Raiser, Seceda and possibly Dantercepies. And maybe the Resciesa funicular. We’re not super hikers. Just looking easy walks for nice views.

My wife has a difficult time walking and we found the paved paths from the top of the Mont Seuc cable car pretty easy to do. The outdoor deck on the restaurant is nice to relax and soak up the sun and views.

You can also find walks on the Gardena Pass. At the “top” of the pass is a cafe/rest stop with walking trails. This is a simply stunning drive! Same for the Sella Pass, which branches off the Gardena Pass.

travel4fun you can definitely hike from Compatsch without using a chairlift. You can avoid the drive up (hairpin turns, not for the feint of heart) and take the big blue gondola from Siusi. There’;s a huge parking lot there. Arrive anytime.

Once in Compatsch, take the Hans and Paula Steger Nature Trail. If you take the entire route it is 6 miles and takes us over 3 hours. You end at a bus stop in Saltria and take the bus back to Compatsch. BUT you can truncate the walk at 2 miles and either walk back the way you came or take a bus.

Also, the Bullaccia “Trail of the Witches” is accessed by a closed gondola both up and back. That is an easy hike of under 3 miles round trip .From Compatsch, you walk down a path following the signs the say Bullaccia and Panorama to reach those lifts.
