Expert on Trenitalia & Roma traffic

0n November 7, my flight leaves FCO at 9:55am.
I will be in Firenze the previous 3 days.

Questions, please:
Searching on Trenitalia, what "From" station should I board for Roma Termini?
How bad is traffic from Roma Termini to FCO around 6-7am?

I am trying to decide whether to return to Roma the previous night or catch the earliest train from Firenzia the same day as the flight?

Thank you for your expertise.

Is your flight out of FCO an international flight, or is it to another Schengen country? If it's an international flight, I'm not sure it's possible to get a train back in time that morning. I'd probably want to be at the airport for such a flight about three hours ahead. I arrived two hours ahead some years ago and that was barely enough time - the Rome airport is really chaotic and busy. I can't imagine it's gotten better. A flight to a Schengen country might require less time at the airport prior to departure.

Another option might be some sort of shuttle service from Florence early in the morning directly to FCO.

No. Leave Florence the night before and get a hotel by the airport.
It is busy at that hour.

This topic has been discussed a few times before. There's no morning train from Florence that will get you to Rome early enough to reach FCO for a 9:55am flight. You'll need to go to Rome the day before. I can't comment on early morning traffic to FCO as I always take the Leonardo Express.

We have taken a shuttle a couple of times around the 6,7am time and traffic was light going to the airport. A 10am flight is probably a domestic or connecting flight as it is a little early for direct flight back to the US. However, staying in Florence is out of the question.

As others have mentioned, some additional information would be helpful, such whether your flight is from FCO to another EU destination or direct to the U.S.?

It's difficult to predict what traffic might be like at that time on any given morning. The safest bet would be to take the Leonardo Express as it will get you to the airport in about 32 minutes, with no worries about traffic. Don't forget to validate your ticket prior to boarding the train in the day of travel.

I would also highly recommend that you stay in Rome the night prior to your flight. You have two basic choices....

  1. Stay in Rome and enjoy your last night in Italy with a fine meal. I normally stay in the vicinity of Termini station as that makes it easy to get to the station on departure day. If you stay in Rome, it will mean leaving early to allow enough time to connect with your flight.
  2. Stay at the Rome Airport Hilton. It's connected directly to the airport by a covered walkway, so you'd be able to walk right into the terminals. You'd be able to sleep in a bit longer if you stayed at the airport hotel.

Wow, such quick responses.

Destination from FCO is EWR. Will stay in Roma the night before.

Grazie.

It’s a good idea to sleep in your departure city the night before an (expensive) international flight.

I will be in Firenze the previous 3 days.

You’ll take the train from Firenze S. M. Novella. (Florence’s main station)

You may consider booking your train tickets up to 120 days in advance at considerable savings.
Keep in mind that discounted train tickets are unrefundable and unchangeable.

Have a wonderful trip!

Thanks for the additional information. You'll probably need to be at the airport at least three hours before an international flight.

As your flight is direct to the U.S. you may be checking in at Terminal 5 - https://www.sloweurope.com/community/threads/rome-fiumicino-airport-fco-no-more-terminal-5.2196/ . I don't take direct flights to the U.S. so have never used that terminal, but hopefully one of the other forum members can confirm what the current arrangements are.

T5 is currently under construction, so go to T3 if you fly UA.

Stay in Rome the night before. No train from Florence can get you there in time the same day.
It’s up to you if you want to stay at the airport or in the city center (30-35 min taxi ride or 32 min train ride from Termini).
If you stay at the Airport Hilton you can sleep 25-30min extra over staying in town.
