If you had to choose between Paola on the sea and Cosenza as a home-base for a family of 10for 3 nights in late December (after Christmas, before New Year's)where would you stay? We get in at night from Amalfi on night 1, and have a guided day trip of family village (Mongrassano) on one other day, hopefully with a meal at an agriturismo afterward. On the 3rd day, we could either day trip FROM Paola to nearby Cosenza, or the other way around. Just not sure which town to use as base. For our train journey out (to Naples), Paola is more convenient. But also don't want our base to be shuttered up, completely, for winter. Thoughts?
I've not seen a lot of people on this board who've traveled to Calabria. If you don't get enough responses here to your questions about that province, you might try SlowTravel Italy Forum Happy travels.
Cosenza is a busier town in Winter, and has nice mountains nearby. Paola is not exaclty a resort that dies down, but it isn't a busy place either.
