Has anyone bid on an upgrade from premium economy to business class on ITA/Alitalia? I'm trying to do that at least for the flight from Miami to Rome, and willing to keep PE for return. Thoughts, suggestions and experiences welcome, please. My flight is in Sept and I just bid an extra $1000 (gulp) for RT Biz which is still less than the current biz rate. I'm thinking they will wait till the last minute to decide, based on how full the flight is. help? TIA

I am not familiar with the bidding process for airline upgrades but I have decades of experience in the auction world. Never pay more than you are willing to spend. If an extra $1k is worth the added comfort for 14 hours of total flight time (~$71/hr), then go for it. Just know your upper limit. Is it worth $100/hr? Only you and your wallet know for sure!
