Excursions with Norwegian Star - 7 Day Mediterranean

Hi!

I'm so confused with booking the excursions. I know it's probably best to book ahead of time, but if we just wait to get off ship and find something, is it really that bad of an idea?

Not really thrilled with the ones the Ship is offering, prices seem high.

hi
what ports are you stopping at? i registered with cruise critic.com, look up the ship you're on and see what other people are doing. Ask questions. A few cruises we corresponded with other cruisers and booked private taxi tours with them to share the cost. Met great people and we are still friends and say hello couple times a year. happy travels

It's difficult to answer your question without knowing what ports this ship will be using. Depending on how far away those can be from what people want to see, it can be best to make some sort of arrangements beforehand.

In any case, to avoid the high price of ship excursions, you need to research your ports ahead of time for those you can easily do on your own via public transit or other means, and how to do those. For instance, this forum sees a lot of questions from cruisers wanting to know how to "do" Rome on their own from the port in Civitavecchia, which is at least an hour away from the city.

If memory serves correctly, Rick Steves has a guide book for Mediterranean cruise ports. If you can get a copy of that perhaps it will point you in the direction of what is where that is of interest to you.

You received some great ideas in your General Europe question.

If you use the ship's excursions, make sure you book ahead of time. They will most likely be booked once you board !
