Will have 3 1/2 days on the coast this May. Our first afternoon will be spent exploring Positano. The next day we will be driving around Amalfi, Ravello, Pompeii and ending in Sorrento where will be staying for the next 3 days. We are planning on traveling to Capri one day. Relax and just enjoy Sorrento with cooking class for our second day. Question- for our last day, is it worth traveling to Ischia? It looks like the excursions are 8-10 hours long. Are there any other amazing day trips from Sorrento? We are a group of 5 adults.

Could you please clarify where you are staying each night? Will you have a rental car for the entirety? Do you have three days or more? I am completely confused.

Sorry- Here are more details to help!
Tuesday-We are arriving by Train into Naples at 11:43 and someone is driving us to Positano. We should be arriving by 13:00 and will have time to explore.
Wednesday- I hired a driver/guide to pick us up from our hotel in Positano and take us along the coast, stop in Pompeii etc. We have the person for 8 hours who will be dropping us at the hotel in Sorrento.
Thursday-Taking the ferry from Sorrento to Capri
Friday-Ischia tour?
Saturday- Leave very early from Sorrento to fly out of Naples.

Thanks so much--that is all clear now! I would trust a professional driver but did not want to see you stuck in a traffic jam all day.
On Friday, I would go to Naples, because one thing I would not feel great about is getting to the airport all the way from Sorrento on that last day. Naples has something for everyone.

If you stick with the plan, I would not take the long journey to Ischia. I would let everyone "choose their own adventure" and wind down the trip however they would like to. Hiking in popular in the area, or you could ask the hotel about booking some kind of excursion up in the hills--a limoncello tasting or something like that.

Can you give more details about the day with the driver?
He is going to take you along the coast, up to Ravello, to Amalfi, and also to Pompeii?
Is your hotel in Sorrento for every night? is that already fixed?
You don't need an excursion to go to Ischia; you just take the ferry, but you have no time to do that on this trip--you are really cramming in too much in 3.5 days. Think about how much time, for example you will have to spend in Ravello, to see the gardens, to just meander...and then to Pompeii?? Is there lunch planned?

I haven't been to Ischia so I can't comment on that but your day in Amalfi, Ravello AND Pompeii seems like a lot. Personally I feel that Pompeii deserves more than a couple of hours; we spent 10 hours over two days there plus a side trip to Oplontis for another couple of hours. I'd want to dedicate a whole day to it, and possibly a trip to the archaeological museum in Naples to tie it all together.
The most amazing day trip to Sorrento we did was Capri which we enjoyed far more than the Amalfi Coast. I don't include Pomp and Naples as daytrips because those were multi-day trips to get everything in.
