Evening Trains Venice to Rome

Hello,

We will be spending 2 days in Venice after disembarking a Cruise. Our flight leaves out of FCO in Rome. I have secured the Hilton at the Airport so that we can spend the night there and be at the airport for our 6:30 AM flight out of Rome. We were thinking that if we left Venice a little later that perhaps we can save and forego the hotel being that we would need to be at the airport by 3:30 - 4:00 a..m. the latest. Are there evening trains that run from Venice to Rome in the 7 - 9PM timeframe and how safe would it be for two women and a 16 year old to travel at this hour. We figured we can go straight to the airport from Venice and just hang out for a couple of hours there vs. spending money on a hotel that we will only be enjoying for 4-5 hours as I really want to have two complete days in Rome. In addition, I have considered flying vs. taking the train, any feedback on cost, best option? Thank you.

The last EuroStar Alta Velocita train leaves Venezia Santa Lucia at 19:27 and arrives at Roma Termini at 22:55. The 2nd class fare is €73.

You will arrive too late to catch the last train or bus to FCO so you'll need to take a taxi.

Safety should not be an issue so long as you keep your eyes open like you should around any central city train station.

Hello,

Thank you so much for your reply. I indeed would prefer arriving into Termini Station prior so that I can catch the train to the airport. Preferably I would like to ensure that I get into Rome and catch the train prior to last just in case of any delays. Do you know the times for the last trains from Termini to the airport? Which site do you recommend so that I can view available departure times from Venice? I was hoping that Venice to Rome fare would be lower than 75 Euros and now am starting to think that it may be more cost effective to fly to FCO rather than take the train. I was able to find a 19.99 on easyjet from Venice to FCO, however, there are additional charges for baggage, taxi to airport, etc. Any additional feedback anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Interested in saving 30 Euros per ticket on the train? Take the Intercity (IC) train #589 from Venezia S. Lucia station at 13:07, which arrives at Roma Termini at 19:24: 42.50 Euros versus 73 Euros for the faster AV train. The 30 Euro savings comes at the cost of 2.5 hours longer travel time.

Arriving at 19:24, you'll be able to connect to the airporter train to FCO.

Wanda,

Even though I prefer trains to planes, I have to admit that in this case the 19:15 easyJet flight would be a good choice. There is cheap bus service from Venice to Marco Polo. You wouldn't have to take a taxi.

Thank you for all the wonderful feedback. I am leaning towards flying at this time as it seems that it would be easier. I am a bit apprehensive that this is the last flight on Easy Jet on that day and our flight leaves the following morning at 6AM. If I take the earlier flight it will take away almost one full day in Venice. My only concern is in the fact that being that this is the last flight on Easy Jet to Rome, what will happen it somehow the flight is cancelled. I guess I can check to ensure that there is a late train just in case.

Except for the overnight sleeper train which wouldn't work for you, the 19:27 EuroStar Alta Velocita I mentioned in my first post is the last train. If the easyJet flight were cancelled, that would be the train to take. One good thing is that you probably would have no trouble getting tickets at the last minute.
