Evening strolling in Rome

Hi everyone! I will be leaving in a few days to spend almost all of October in Italy, moving around quite a bit, poking from Venice down to Rome, then back up to depart from Milano. I will have about four days in Rome, staying near the Termini station. My daytimes are pretty well programmed, but my evenings are generally free. Besides the Centro Storico, with all its famous illuminated sites and crowds, are there less-touristed neighborhoods or particular spots that some of you think are especially nice for strolling around after dark, either before dinner, for dinner or after dinner? Do you know of any cultural events or venues that I might look into, for performances of one type or another? I'd value your informed suggestions. Mille Grazie!

Larry, Two areas that immediately come to mind are the areas around Piazza Navona or Trastevere. Both are always fairly busy during the evening Passeggiata, and Piazza Navona especially has some good street musicians. I don't know of any cultural events or concerts, so will have to leave that one up to the others. Happy travels!

Despite the busyness of the area, we still love to stroll the Centro Storico before and after dinners in that area. (Although the shops are mostly closed after dinner.) Via del Governo Veccio, Via dei Coronari, Via dei Banchi Nuovi, Via dei Banchi Vecchi, and the many little street in-between. I avoid Via del Corso like the plague. Too many people trying to be cool. But via Marguta is nice, and Via dei Babuinio not bad.

Trastevere neighborhood is my favorite! Lots and lots of restaurants and bistros. Safe, charming, and sometimes music in the streets. At Piazza Santa Maria de Trastevere.

My vote goes to the following three neighborhoods: Trastevere Trastevere and
Trastevere. The Centro Storico (Piazza Navona, Campo dei Fiori, Pantheon, Trevi, Spagna) is also great, but it's more touristed and you'll pay much more.

To find cultural events and performances, get a copy of the weekly Rome C'e (it's like Time Out for London or Pariscope for Paris). As I recall, it has a small section in English, but most is in Italian.

This is an interesting website for activities I found yesterday while researching our spring 2014 trip to Rome. "What's On in Rome" section has daily events with markets, walks, concerts that might get you strolling in a new neighborhood.

Grazie everybody, for your helpful thoughts. By majority vote of those choosing to express an opinion, certainly not a scientific study, it looks like I'll be spending my mid-October evenings strolling aimlessly around Trastevere, with a periodic pass through the Centro Storico. I'll be the guy with a gelato in hand, and copy of Roma C'e spilling out of my pocket, unless some pickpocket claims it.
