Eurostar Italia Alta Velocità trains in Italy

I have been aboard other trains in Italy but we are considering this high speed option from Venice to Naples versus flying. Has anyone been aboard? Has anyone had trouble with motion sickness on such a high speed train (6 hour trip). We rode the Eurostar from Paris to London but felt a little off kilter for the rest of the day (perhaps because of the speed?). We are traveling with our parents (in their 70s). Would 1st class be worth it? Thanks.

I'm not prone to motion sickness, but it seemed to me like the high speed train didn't go all that fast for most of the trip. If you're ok in a car, you'll probably be ok on the train as well, and the prior poster's advice to face the same way the train is moving is good.

Travelers who are more sensitive to motion have reported having problems on the high speed trains, similar to (or worse than) the relatively mild symptoms you have already experienced on the Paris to London run. Travelers who have had problems before are probably in the group of people that are more sensitive to the motion. It's aggravated by getting up and walking around and by riding backward. No matter how many messages you get, here, from people saying they didn't have a problem, your prior experience with motion sickness is a more reliable guide to whether you will have a problem.

Hi Lise,

Regarding first class or not, see my response in this thread, which should answer that question.

I have been on a number of trains in Europe, and I found the Eurostar Italia to be among the best - which is a huge leap forward compared to the rest of their trains in Italy.

My travelling partner suffered from motion sickness, but she was fine on the Eurostar Italia so long as she was facing the direction of travel. The trains are very smooth, very comfortable, and I actually find they are less sickening than flying due to the higher level of oxygen you get as you travel.

Perhaps you felt a little bit off on the Eurostar because of the pass through the Chunnel? The pressure change that comes quite rapidly can be rather unnerving to your system.
