I am interested in Italian city maps in general, but especially for a pedestrian map for Venice that can be opened a portion at a time while walking the back streets. Where can I find one here in the States (Seattle)?
If you're willing to make a pilgrimage to downtown Seattle, go to Metsker Maps near the Pike Place Market. Or, if you're near UW, pop over to Wide World Books and Maps in Wallingford. Both places have loads of good books and maps, and also helpful, knowledgeable staff.
ETA: Both also have websites. www.wideworldtravelstore.com and www.metskers.com.
I second the recommendation for the Streetwise map in Venice if you really feel the need for a map. It is laminated which makes it hold up really well and folds up into sections. However, after awhile my husband just folded it up and followed the signs that are everywhere that point you to San Marco, or Rialto or wherever you are trying to get to. The best recommendation is just to study it before you leave home so you have some idea of which landmark is closest to where you are actually trying to get to. Some of those back streets are rarely sign posted very well. As Rick says, it is an island and you can't just get off it.
Thank you, everyone.
