Planning a trip to Italy in 2012. Since the Euro is low should I buy some now for my trip.
Just look at the previous dozen questions on this subject.
My "crystal ball" says you should definitely buy Euros on June 3, 2010 ;-)
My trip begins July 18th (arriving July 19th). I will get foreign currency from an ATM when I arrive at the airport.
The Euro is down. I'm not sure it will keep going lower quickly but it's not likely to jump back up any time soon. The short and longer term trend for the Euro is down. Next year is likely to be cheaper than this year (but that's not a reason to delay your trip).
I plan on getting most of my Euro's from ATM's in Italy. But since the Euro is lower than I have ever seen it I thought that maybe i should purchase a few Euro's with the money i would be setting aside for the trip
It's anyone's guess but I bet the Euro will continue to fall. I go to Europe twice a year and have seen it all over the place from a low of 0.87 cents to a high of $1.60 two years ago when it was on all the headlines during my trip. As mentioned, you will pay a premium to buy them here in the U.S. but you could buy a small amount as a hedge in the coming weeks and then buy a bit more if it goes down. 2012 is a long time from now so no one knows where it will be by then but if it got close to $1.00, I would be very interested.
