I will soon be traveling to Europe, and am considering buying a Eurail pass. My Itinerary is as follows: Rome-Florence-Venice-Paris-Amsterdam-London. I am planning on taking the overnight train from Venice to Paris.
My question: Is it worth purchasing a 3 country Eurail pass(Italy, France, Benelux) even though I would only be riding on the train into/out of Paris and into/out of Amsterdam? OR, would it be more economical to buy point-to-point? Likewise, I could just buy an Italy pass since most of my train travel will only be in Italy.
Basically, how many trains do I need to ride in France/Benelux to make that ticket worth purchasing?
My g/f and I are doing a similar trip.
We fly into London and will take the Eurostar to Paris and then a night train from Paris to Milan. After that we will be doing lots of trips within Italy but have decided to just buy them when we get there (we are going in July).
At the end of the trip we are taking a night train from Milan to Barcelona where we will fly back to Canada.
I tried to add it all up and determine which was best and in the end we are going to book our night trains ahead of time and then go point to point around Italy.
Hopefully it is the right decision.
A rail pass usually never pays off in Italy. The cost per person for second class seats from Rome to Florence and then on to Venice is 83 euros (41 R-F, 42 F-V). There is an overnight train from Venice to Paris for 127 euros. I don't know how much your rail pass will cost but if you decide to buy it just make sure to do the math.
If you go to trenitalia site just know that the schedule for after June 12 is not out yet. Just use dates before that to get the prices.
