If my husband and I have the italy pass saver and plan to take the ES (fast) train from Rome to Venice, I know we need reservations. Can pass holders buy their reservations from the same "automated ticket machines" where one buys point to point? OR stand in line?
I think you have to stand in line, unfortunately.
Have you already bought your passes? Since train travel in Italy is relatively inexpensive, point-to-point tickets are usually cheaper than a pass. This is particularly true if you ride the ES trains which charge a €15 reservation fee for passholders. For other Italian trains requiring reservations the fee is only €3-€4. No reservations are possible on regional trains so you just jump on and go. Check timetables and fares here: www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html.
I have tracked the point to point sales and have estimated the cost of tickets and compaired to the pass saver which is a little bit less. But, wondered how to buy the one or two reservations needed for the longer hauls...ie Rome to Venice. Thanks for the imput.
