I'll admit it. I'm an airline employee traveling on a "pass." It is now impossible to get to Rome or even Milan now. Which airport in europe is easiest to maneuver for a connection? Thanks. My choices are CDG, Zurich, Amsterdam. Any advice?
Hi Donna. I've never flown through Zurich or Amsterdam but we flew both ways through CDG (on Air France) this past Aug/Sept with a tight connection between our flights. CDG is so big and we almost missed our outgoing flight to Venice because we got a bit twisted around & lost (we literally jumped on the plane as they were closing the doors!). But, the good thing was that if we had missed our flight to VCE, there were several more flights that day so I was confident that they would have put us on the next flight. If the Zurich or Amsterdam airports are smaller than CDG, then I would opt to fly through a smaller airport. If you do choose to connect through CDG, print out a map of the terminals ahead of time & know which terminal you're flying into & out of so you can get the route down and minimize the chance of getting lost! Have a great trip!
Amsterdam is the best of your list.
We came in through AMS last time. Lots of connections to Rome.
In terms of maneuverability AMS and ZRH are both good. CDG is a monster to avoid for fast connections. But if your pass is with Delta, then CDG is the largest Sky Team alliance hub (both AirFrance-KLM and Alitalia are members of that club) and they have the most flights to either FCO or LIN. AMS is probably the best though, because it's the second largest Sky Team hub in Europe (after CDG) and it's very easy to maneuver.
ZRH is easy to negotiate, but that's Star Alliance territory.
I've flown in to/out of all of them, I like Zurich and Amsterdam the best.
Thank ALL of you very much! I really want to take the grand-daughter to Italy when she's out of school, so I think I'll avoid CDG and route ourselves through either Amsterdam or Zurich! Great info as always here. I try to help when I have info to share.
