Ethics of using Hot Tubs this fall?

So here's a weird enquiry. Am I overthinking this?

I booked several places on our Italy trip starting next week way back in the Spring that have Jacuzzis in the room as my partner and I like to relax early in the evening and thought it would be a nice benefit.

I'm starting to wonder about the ethics of filling up and running a hot tub many nights now that Europe is suffering through energy issues and a severe drought. We're also staying at boutique operations so it's not like I can justify it by knowing it's a huge chain probably overcharging me anyways.

Do you think I should switch to a different room? Use them more sparingly? Offer to throw in a few more Euros to the couple running the place every time I use it?

Energy costs are rocketing and much of Europe is suffering drought conditions. Would you fill a hot tub at home every night?

Quick question. Are these actual hot tubs, or are they baths with an air jet feature? Seems to me that hot tubs would already be filled and heated, so using them or not would make no difference as far as energy costs go. Baths, OTOH would be up to you. I'm not a bath type of person; preferring other ways of relaxing after a busy day, usually involving a beverage and a comfortable chair or lounge.

Kevlar,
The jacuzzi at the nice flat that we rented in London back in June, was 'not operational'. We were not warned about that til a couple weeks before arrival there. My wife and I just assumed that some sort of tech probs had occurred. But recalling now how the steam room there was also off limits, it seems very possible that restrictions may've played a role, maybe self-imposed by the owners?

Normally I wouldn't have hesitated to complain (I do a real good 'Karen'), but the truth was that we were having such a good time anyway, that it felt unseemly to focus on the negative.

I laud you for even posing this question here.
Have a great trip.

Come to think of it - the apartment we rented in Venice last April was “missing” the bathtub plug, which I never would have noticed had one of my traveling companions not wanted to take a bath.

@CJean: These would be tubs with jets in them. Pretty small tubs based on the pictures, but still. If they were large jacuzzi's in a spa or outdoor area, I likely wouldn't obsess about it if the hotel has them operating anyways.

I'm thinking a good compromise is only using them every other day and only when both of us can use it at the same time.

Probably a good idea to find out if the tub will be 'operational'; if not, a move to a 'tubless' room ( presumably a lower rate) or determine if there is a lower rate if the feature is not available. If it will be usable, find out if i there is a surcharge they intend to impose.

You mean you didn't bring your universal sink-tub stopper/drain cover along with you? I thought everyone had one of those in their "save a trip kit." 😎

Universal sink-stopper/bathtub drain cover

Seriously, it's cheap, lightweight, easy to pack, works perfectly to seal any drain (and in a pinch, can substitute for a cutting board, dinner plate, and all sorts of other improvised objects). Don't leave home without it! ™️

Of course I carried mine with me this year as every year, but stayed in one apartment in which it was no use. The bathroom sink had a raised stopper that could not be lowered. Therefore, the flat universal stopper was no use. I had to do my laundry in the kitchen sink.
