I'm fine with stairs and elevators and short escalators, but have a real fear of those very long escalators such as one sees in London at some stations. Are the stations in Rome very deep, and would I ever encounter any really long escalators with no choice of stairs or elevator? Margaret in Canada
Margaret, As I recall, there are some longer Escalators at Termini and some of the other stations in Rome, but there's always a choice of stairs (which are usually constructed in the centre, between the "up" and "down" Escalators). Cheers!
The Metro in Rome is much less necessary than the Tube in London. If you have any concerns about taking the Metro, just use buses, which go everywhere
Much more likely that your choice will be limited to stairs only, but if for some reason the stairs are closed off, there's usually a second e it option - look for the overhead sign at the other end of the platform. Or plan on buses, as suggested.
