Hi - I'm hoping someone might know the answer to this and thank you in advance.
I wrote Trip Advisor & they said they cannot provide any info on this subject - a day trip from Palermo to Erice & Segesta with a tour company called Tour Transfer Italy (recommended on by TA) Under additional info it indicates "No heart problems or other serious medical conditions". Can anyone provide insight as to why this is stated. Thanks very much!
Erice requires a steep walk to reach the top of the village from the parking lots. It can be strenuous and not advisable to someone with a heart condition.
The temple of Segesta also requires a bit of an uphill walk on a path with some stairs from the parking lot. I don’t remember being too challenging but definitely it is not flat terrain.
Gail, the company is Tour Transfer Sicily, you can Google that and get to a web site, with various tours, including the day-long Segesta, Erice and Trapani Salt Flats tour, from Palermo. Many reviews, most extremely positive. The tour seems to be van transport to the 3 sites and a very friendly, helpful driver who speaks English well, but is not really a guide. Seems you are basically on your own at each site. I know that Segesta and Erice can involve stairs and uphill walking, depending on how you choose to explore them. One satisfied reviewer mentioned he was accompanied by his 92-year old mother, who walked slowly. No one complained about difficult, exhausting or impossible terrain. Maybe the web site would lead you to a contact point, or FAQ about health concerns or limitations. Personally, I found that Segesta and Erice were both spectacular (I spent 2 nights in Erice), although I did not visit Trapani or its salt flats. Enjoy wonderful Sicily!
