On our way from Rome to Sorrento via train, we are stopping at Ercolano and would like to climb Vesuvius. Does anyone know what we can do with our luggage? Dee

I don't have a specific answer for you, but suggest you check the Italy Guidebook. As I recall there's information there both on luggage storage and getting to Mt. Vesuvius. You might want to stop at the Pompeii station as I believe luggage storage is available in the station (not sure about Ercolano?).
Getting to Vesuvius involves a Bus ride and again the details are in the book. Hopefully one of the others here will be able to provide more specific information. As I recall, those hiking up Vesuvius must be accompanied by a Guide.
