I know that ETIAS will be starting in 2026. Will it be required in January, 2026? Other than a valid passport, is there any other required travel document? Thanks

The start date for ETIAS is scheduled for the last quarter of 2026, with the exact date to be announced at least six months prior. For the US and other countries that do not require a visa for the EU there's been no mention of additional documents.

You need to pre-register with the ETA for UK, and then be prepared for EES when you arrive in Europe from now on. ERTIAS does not start till Q3. Search these forums for many posts and links on the subject.

At best ETIAS is starting in Quarter 4 (autumn/fall) of 2026, so will not apply in January.
So nothing required- you may well go through EES on arriving in Italy, but there is nothing to do in preparation for that. So a passport is all you need, assuming it is a US or Canadian passport.
