entrance to Roman forum

I need some help with how to access the Roman Forum ruins from the Colosseum. In the past I have just walked past the arch and up the Via Sacra and down into the Forum but I have read this access is now an Exit only?!? How do I get to the forum from the Colosseum now? Thanks kindly.

I was there in October and tried to enter by the Via Sacra and could not. I believe Ricks book describes two entrances. The one I found was along Via Imperioli, about halfway up the forum from the Colosseum.
