Cindy, as Christine said, you're too early for tickets to be available for some attractions, such as the Colosseum. However, what museums are you trying to buy tickets for in Florence? Messing around with a dummy booking, it looks like you can buy May 12th entry tickets for the Uffizi at this time (it's closed on Monday, May 11th as are all of Italy's State Museums).
Ordinary access tickets (which is what you're wanting to purchase) for the Colosseum/Forum/Palatine are sold on a quarterly, monthly, weekly and daily (for the following day) basis. Here's how that schedule currently works; under the "NEWS" section of the website (all times stated are ROME time):
https://www.coopculture.it/en/the-colosseum.cfm

Obviously, tickets for the 2nd quarter (April/MayJune) are not on sale yet so just keep an eye on the site. Also, be cautious about ticketing info in your guidebook? There were a fair amount of ticketing changes to the Colosseum/Forum/Palatine and some of the Florence museums this past year - mostly concerning use of passes - AFTER guidebooks went to press so best get your info from the websites themselves. The RS staff also does a good job of noting most after-press changes here:
