US citizen ??? Formal charged for possession? My guess -- and only a guess -- if you were simply deported with no criminal charge or other formal legal proceeding, then there is no record. But there are a lot of "ifs" in this question that need to be answer by experts and not frequent travelers as most of us are. Obviously, who to contact would be the Italy consulate. You don't want to show up on their doorstep and they will not let you in. And your problems could start with the airline when they run you passport at check-in.
