Enough time to connect bus to train

Hello , New to the forum.
My sister and I are traveling from Isernia Molise to Rome in October. We will be taking a bus from Isernia
To Venafro connecting to the train onto Rome. The connection is 8min. Does anyone know if this is enough time? We each will have a medium suitcase and a small carry bag. We are in our 70’s without any physical limitations.
Thank you for your help.

Is the bus station close to the train station?
What if bus is late?
are there later trains to Rome?

8 min feels too tight to me but not familiar with that route

I don't have experience at this station, but looking at google maps, it looks like a small station with a bus stop right outside. In those 8 minutes, you have to get off the bus, get your bags out from under the bus since they probably won’t fit near your seat, and get to the platform. I would look at the next trains available, just in case you miss your connection.

Assuming the bus stops at the train station, getting off the bus, gathering your bags, getting into the station and to the tracks in 8 minutes ( assuming the bus is on time after a 40 minute trip) is more optimistic than practical or probable. You may not be the 1st of the bus, or you bags may not be the first the driver unloads so I see 8 minutes as improbable.

Earlier bus or later train seems to be in order.

There appears to be a direct bus to Tiburtina in Rome. Then take the metro or taxi to your hotel. I would be more comfortable with that than a tight connection that could result in a long wait at a small station if you miss your connection.

The station at Venafro looks small enough for you to make the connection in 8 minutes, providing that the bus arrives on time.

Therein lies the problem. If the bus is delayed, will they hold the train for you? In 2013 I was on a bus arriving at the Bad Tölz train station in Bavaria. The bus had been delayed while a rider searched for her pass. We arrived at the Bad Tölz station just as the train was scheduled to pull out, but the driver radioed ahead to hold the train for a few minutes as we walked through the station to the platform.

I don't know if in Italy they would do this. Or if the bus was later than ours at arriving, would they hold the train?

If you miss the 9:58 train, the next one to Rome is not for four hours. Can you wait that long? There is an earlier bus, at 7:25, which makes the change at Venafro in 11 minutes. If you tried to make that connection, you could miss it and still get to Rome by 11:47 by taking the 9:58 train from Venafro.

Thank You everyone for your quick reply. I am also feeling that an 8 min. Connect time is too close for all the reasons mentioned. I was thinking we might take the earlier bus just to be sure we have plenty of time. Or maybe spend the night before in Venafro . The direct bus is a good option too. I will look into these options.

Many thanks to everyone.
