We are landing at FCO on Monday, May 1st at 10:20am and are scheduled for a connecting flight departing on ITA to Sicily at 12:10pm. I spoke with ITA customer service and they said it shouldn't be a problem unless we have checked baggage, which we won't. Has anyone had experience with how long it might take to get through Italian customs and the subsequent security check point?
You will go thru passport control at FCO
Customs will be in Sicily and just a matter of which door to walk thru
You should have enough time and if you miss connecting flight ITA will put you on next flight with seats available
You might want to check on flights after yours
We went to Sicily last year. I think we had a bit over an hour for the connecting in Rome. We had plenty of time. Additionally, there are a lot of flights to Sicily, so they could put you on the next one.
Last May several family members flew nonstop from Newark to FCO (United) then had reservations on RyanAir, about 1.5 hours later. Their United flight was delayed just long enough that they missed their flight to CTA. It cost them $200 each to rebook on a later flight, BUT that's Ryan Air! ITA may be a little more expensive to begin with but as another mentioned they may be more accommodating to get you on a later flight.
