Enjoying the journey

My husband, son and I are busy planning our trip to Italy this fall. We will be staying in Sorrento for two nights. I was planning on taking advantage of the Mondo Guide's tour of the Amalfi Coast that offers a shared tour for Rick Steve's readers. The price and convenience sound perfect. After reading more details about Positano and Amalfi (the fun walks and little streets and buildings to explore) and also reading about the option to take a ferry back to Sorrento and enjoy the view of the coastline from the water, we are not sure what to do. We can take the bus to Amalfi, bus or ferry to Postiano, then ferry back to Sorrento BUT I liked the idea of the tour and being able to stop along the way and take pictures, which would not be an option on the local bus. Is there another option? A private driver willing to take us one way, from Sorrento to Amalfi? I think I read a taxi would cost about 100 euros? Suggestions please?

You have scoped all the options. You just have to decide what to do.

I always enjoy seeing a country from the sea and Italy is no exception, no matter where you are. It cost me 100 euros to taxi from Sorrento to Positano, one way many years ago. If you can hire a cab for that for the day that might be the best, or have him drop you in Amalfi and take to boats.

Thank you!! Also, we will most likely be flying into Naples. Can't decide which would be the best use of our small amount of time In Sorrento/Almalfi Coast area. Visit Pompeii that morning we fly in (and best way to get there from the airport?) OR take the direct bus from airport to Sorrento and stop at Pompeii when leaving Sorrento and heading to Rome. (the train from Sorrento to Rome) It looks like the local train stops right at Pompeii before heading to the main train station in Naples?
