Because we’re flying home on milage award tickets we were able to suddenly decide to extend our trip and stay in Rome 5 more nights. So glad we did. The days are sunny and it’s wonderful to see all the holiday preparations including the MANY panettones in every grocery store and bakery. I now understand why people love to visit Rome at Christmas time.

We were in Rome at the beginning of December last year and the grocery store Panettone displays were amazing. Aisles of the delicious bread piled as high as possible. One could hardly walk through a store without knocking over a Panettone. It was a beautiful thing to see. And the roasted chestnuts from street-vendors were yummy.
