Sally,

We have attended Mass at St. Peters and at other churches in Italy and France. Experiencing the liturgy in the local language is a unique cultural experience. You might chance upon an English speaking group that has scheduled a Mass or is traveiling with a priest and you could join them. Otherwise, if you are familiar with the liturgy you can easily follow along and say the prayers and responses in English. You will hear others doing so in various languages. The readings and homily will be in Italian, though. So, you could photocopy the missalette pages from your home church for the Masses on the days you will be attending, tuck them in your bag, and follow along as you listen in Italian. You can probably find these on the internet, as well. One of the beautiful things about the Catholic Church is that it is universal (for those who might be reading this and may not know, the word "catholic" means "universal"). No matter where you attend Mass on a given day anywhere in the world the Bible readings are the same selections.
