English Mass at Basilica of St. Francis

Hello everyone:

We will be in Assisi on Sunday May 17. I checked the website for the Basilica of St. Francis and did not find it helpful about Mass times. Is there an English Mass? Thanks!

From Easter through October, mass in English is usually in the lower church at 9:00 a.m.; see p. 759 of Rick's Italy book; a bit hard to find online, but it's here. You can call 075-819-0084 when there to see whether any groups have arranged for other times.

Well worth doing is a vespers in the original church where Francis was called which is down the hill aways. Not in English but it doesn't matter; very cool experience. San Damiano I believe.

I kind of like going to Mass when it's all in Italian. The structure of the Mass is the same everywhere, of course, so you know when they're saying the Lord's Prayer, etc. We went to Sunday Mass in the Pantheon in Rome once. It was a memorable morning! (We did zone out during the sermon, though!)

Have a great time!

And Stacy, I don't disagree. We went to Mass in France one time, all in French, and it was a good experience except for not understanding the homily!
