End of December/New Years with Teens

Shifting of dates has my summer trip plans turned upside down. Please help!

Looking for fun adventures for our family of teens to do in Italy over a long New Years holiday. They will only enjoy so many museums/churches and without the distraction of the ocean I'm struggling to create a balanced, fun itinerary.

Open to anything. Thank you so much!

I've traveled with my niece and nephews when they were late teens over xmas break. Three months before leaving I gave them independence to research the location so they could give input into the itinerary things they want to do.

We went to the Atlantic Ocean beach at Cadiz, Spain and had a picnic on New Years Day. Another time we watched fireworks over the Mediterranean at the stroke of midnight New Year's Eve.

The weather to do things outdoors is going to be better south of Rome.

There were large fireworks in Rome on New Year’s Eve. Lots of firecrackers going off in the streets too. The city was packed with tourists, mostly Italians. Christmas trees were lit and little colored lights were strung across the streets. We had been to Rome several times before so didn’t sightsee. You can go to visit Ostia Antica by train; it’s near FCO so not far. If the weather is nice, you could rent bikes and ride the Appian Way. What about going up to Ortisei in the Dolomites for a snowy setting? Or Sicily or Puglia for warmer conditions? Lots to do and see in both areas.
We wore our winter coats and it was colder than London where we had flown from. We were in Rome from December 27-Jan.3.
