Emirates or Delta/alitalia

Traveling round trip JFK-Milan. Direct flights on Emirates and Delta/Alitalia similar fares. Have never flown Emirates. Flew on Alitalia in Italy only. Have a little while to decide. Trip is not until April 2016.

I have had fine flights with Alitalia, but I would choose Emirates over Alitalia. Great food, great flight, great entertainment.

Never flew on Emirates, but flew to rome on Alitalia (through Delta partner) and back on Air France. Air France won the prize. It was a great flight. Seemed to have more legroom, better food, and the crew were wonderful.

Emirates airline is best airline to travel any destination. Service was great .The crew was nice and helpful, they have the best entertainment system with the latest collection of movies. Easy to book at online.

We are flying Emirates from JFK to Milan in Feb. Personally, I have never flown Emirates, but i know people who have and their service is top-notched. I'm super excited to be using their airline ( I have no affiliation what so ever... but appreciate good service!)

I know this board is not a hotbed of Business Class travelers. But the Fair in Milan has created furious competition (remember that, Capitalists and Republicans??) on the route. We would not otherwise fly out of JFK, but we got a November deal for Two RT Business Class tickets on Emirates for $3,800. That includes up to FOUR paid limo rides (+- 50 miles, rules vary by airport) at the two airports, which reduces the cost even more.

I can't begin to describe the level of luxury of this business class product! So be sure to check for discount rates on their website (which is not as well built as most other airlines.) I would add that on our past trip to East Africa, Emirates found and RETURNED my Bose headphones I left on the Nairobi-Dubai flight. I picked them up at the Manhattan office.

Since Emirates is subsidized by its oil-rich government, it can coddle the passenger more. Delta has already folded one route on which it was in competition. And that's Emirates' declared business strategy.

What am I missing? I looked at Emirates (Philadelphia - Rome; Venice - Philadelphia) and the price (June into July) was over $13,000.00! I've flown that route for the past 12 years on USAir but not sure I want to continue doing so with American. SAS to Milan was more than fine and very inexpensive - except for the missed connection but the agent couldn't have been more helpful helping me make up some lost time. My Italian teachers (all 3 of them) here in the states tell me they would never fly Alitalia. Hmmm?
