We have traveled to Bologna, Modena, Emelia and Parma several times. They are all wonderful- lots of history, great sites and amazing food and wine. Also good train connections between each. Recommend the area if you have time.
I think you mean the Region of Emilia-Romagna. There is a Reggio Emilia, which is a province of that region, as well as a city of that name.

Thanks for the correction. I realized after I started writing and realized I couldn't remember the spelling. Have you been to the region?
Becky, you can easily edit your post and correct the spelling!
And, we've been to this region , and it's wonderful. Each region in Italy is unique. I only hope they stay that way...that is what makes Italy so wonderful...
We stayed in Bologna for a few nights a few years ago. Enjoyed it but weren't blown away. The fact that it rained the entire time put a damper on it, both literally and figuratively.
Last year I spent four nights in Ravenna and really loved it. Amazing mosaics, great food.
