Are the electric sockets 2 or 3 prongs ? Do the hotels lend you any or should i bring two ? Anything else i should know ?
They can be both 2 prong (ungrounded) or three prong (grounded). There's a difference between an adapter and a converter. My camera battery charger and my 5 port USB charger are 120/240 and work fine with just an adapter. My wife's small hair dryer is 120vac only and requires a converter.
Be sure to check all electrical devices to make sure. Some hotels have them, we borrowed a couple in London, but to be safe, I suggest you take them. If an adapter is all you need, they are small and inexpensive.
Definitely don't rely on the hotel to have them
They are cheap ; buy a bunch and make sure you have spares.
Like any cheap electronic device they sometimes are bad or go bad also ; they are easy to leave behind in a hotel ; both have happened to me so I would typically bring 5 or so in my bag even if I don't ever need to use more than 2
I am NOT recommending this brand at all ; have no clue what brand I do own but this type is all you need for most electronics.

As you can see they are very inexpensive ; for charging your phone, camera and a million other tasks these are all you need.
If you plan on bringing a device that demands more power: Hair Dryer / Laptop ; etc.. than you need a larger, more expensive converter type plug and especially with Hair Dryers have to be careful as some are very powerful.
Starting point is to read the RS FAQ on electric power in Europe: https://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/phones-tech/electric-adapters-converters
Italy typically has 2 prong Type C ungrounded (Continental Europe) and 3 prong Type L grounded outlets:

https://www.worldstandards.eu/electricity/plugs-and-sockets/l/
My 240v iron had a Type F Schuko grounded plug but would fit into the Italian sockets but the iron was not grounded.
I have an awesome adaptor that has literally all the common plugs for Europe and elsewhere. And it has two USB ports. Can. Use in the US and abroad. Very helpful for hotels with only one out of the way outlet. Also recommend taking longer than normal USB cords so that your devices may actually be placed on a table or chair if the only outlet is far away from these.
If your only need is to plug USB connectors into USB ports, I suggest you buy a European USB ported plug when you arrive. You can find them with 2 USB ports ranging in price from 8 to 15 Euro. Of course, add 25%! If you can buy them for less on-line and take along, I'd go that route.
Then you don't have to worry about your adapters going bad..
Speaking from experience.
You can buy US - to European - plug adaptors here in the US at Wal-Mart for a couple of dollars.
Since I tend to forget things when leaving hotels, I usually pack a couple of them.
Happy Travels.
" Anything else i should know"
Yes! Aside from Plug Adaptors, you'll need to check each of the devices you'll be travelling with to ensure they're designed for operation from 100-240 VAC. What type of devices are you planning to bring on the trip?
You'll only need 3-pin Plug Adaptors if you're travelling with grounded appliances (ie: three pin plug). In most cases, the two-pin Euro Plug Adaptors will be all you'll need - https://www.amazon.com/Ckitze-EU-Europe-Power-Adapter/dp/B0012S304W/ref=sr_1_8/141-4253209-8192220?ie=UTF8&qid=1522738451&sr=8-8&keywords=euro+plug+adapter .
Sometimes the actual wall sockets in Italy are recessed deeper in than a flat wall socket..
In that case, you can find a local hardware store there, or a "Tutto 99 Cent" store, and they will have extender plugs so you can then plug in your adaptor.
A lot of apartments I've rented there seem to have a few odd ones in a junk drawer in the kitchen; but you will have to bring your own adaptor and/or convertor.
