We are renting a villa in central Tuscany for a week. Our plan is to do day trips (we will be in Florence and the Lucca/Pisa area later in the trip). One day trip under consideration is taking the ferry to Elba. Another is to go to one of the towns along the coastline. Any advice about either?

We love Porto San Stefano. It is on an "island" near Orbetello.

We took the ferry to Elba, then rode our bike there. didn't really see much of the coastal town, but more of the interior. The ferry ride is a long one, so a day trip might be a bit long.
We spent some time in Talamone last year, it was a really small town, but enjoyable. Don't hit it on a Sunday, it's too quiet!
