Is there any slow up exiting Italy Rome FCL airport with the introduction of Entry/Exit/System? Do I need extra time to go through immigration because of this?
What do you mean by extra time? When will you be there?
If you are planning months from now?, what is happening today is of little consequence. Be there next week? Maybe it does.
Immigration at FCO has taken me mere minutes, to almost an hour, in the old system. If EES is actually active (there have been some issues various places, so they use the gates sometimes, otherwise you just go through a manual line), then I would not expect much more delay than usual. Between arrival and gate delays, de-planing, walking forever to the immigration booths, then any wait...I figure it might be 2 hours of my life. If I get through in less, often do, then great.
Maybe others have some recent experience, but I have not really seen a great deal of valid reports (there have been some British tabloid articles and various "web" articles) of significant issues.
Today, 4/5/26 Easter Sunday, leaving Rome at 10:00 AM on American Airlines. Gate E33
From the moment we arrived at terminal 3, it took us 37 minutes to check in and get to our gate - VERY easy. First you check in (you must see an agent at Desk/Counter 441 - if you are flying priority, there is a separate line). That took 5 minutes. THEN you go through security control. It IS NEAR the American/United/Delta check in counters, NOT back in the center of the terminal like so many of the YouTube videos show. Take your laptops/Tablets OUT so they can see them. Still, this only took 10 minutes. THEN you go through customs control … scan your Passport, see an agent who stamps your passport and your DONE - 5 minutes. The LONGEST part of the whole process is walking to the gate - it’s a hike. The SHOPPING inside the security area is amazing. Caveats: we arrived 3 hours early, maybe be were just too early to run into lines. IF you can get into the lounge - American used Prima Vista - you will be happy, the food and coffee (with a real barista) was sooo good.
No big deal. We arrived at FCO from Boston at 6:30 am on April 1, and it took about 30 minutes total. Friends arriving noonish from SFO about 2 weeks prior took about 20 minutes.
In the last 3 years our arrival clearing at FCO have taken about 1/3 of the time of our arrival clearing back into the US at Boston.
I landed on a flight from Canada at FCO April 2. There was no automated system like last year. The Entry line for US/Canada passport holders was a nightmare! It took over an hour to slowly snake around the barriers to the border officers who fingerprinted and snapped facial biometrics. It was all a manual system. The poor kids in the line- up! By the time I got to baggage claim, all bags from my flight were strewn carelessly about the floor next to the carousel. Worst experience ever at FCO.
In late February, Rome (FCO) closed their EES machines at 7PM. They had signs up and the machines were roped off.
