EES at Fiumicino FCO - Rome

Has anyone been through here and experienced this in the last couple weeks? Any feedback? How long from landing until you were picking up
Your bags? I am hearing of issues with the scanners and fingerprints leading to processing delays to enter. Any feedback and insights greatly appreciated.

Yes, I went through a few weeks ago. The entire process from registration at machines and going through the e-gates took about 10 minutes.

The key sticking point for many seemed to be getting their fingerprints to register. Pressing down hard matters! A gentlemen near me who was struggling with this used his other hand on top to give added pressure and that did the trick.
If your fingerprints didn’t register, you were put in a longer line.

Others have reported that they did not register for EES and were processed manually.

Interestingly, when I exited through FCO, all but a few of the machines were turned off. Some were sent to exit through the machines and some waved over to an officer for a manual check. I was sent to an officer who looked at my passport for about 10 seconds and waved me through.

I think there is absolutely no way to predict how they will handle entry/exit at any given moment.

What is EEC? We're traveling to FCO in June, wondering what to expect as far as Immigration etc. Also, US citizens don't need any new visa waiver yet, correct? I'm actually a German citizen, so should be easy for me, but hubby's a Yank 😁

It is the new entry / exit system to enter Europe. Trying to find out how it has been working for non EU citizens.

In the end it was nothing at all. They didn’t fingerprint us and simply scanned our passport and took our picture. From gate arrival to our the gate, it was about an hour. Very easy.
