We are trying to book a place to say for three nights in Venice. We want to stay someplace as central as possible, near San Marco. The cheapest I've been quoted yet (for a student discount) is 110 euro per night at a B&B just 5 minutes walk from San Marco. Is this a good deal? We want to be able to walk to everything, and only use transportation when we use the water bus for the airport. Edit: We have booked a studio apartment in the Canneregio district that is run by the Ca'Riccio B&B, for 45 euro per person per night (90 euro a night). I found it by searching for apartments on cross-pollinate.com. Thanks so much for all your suggestions :)
I think that sounds very reasonable for the location; see if other's agree.
It's a very good price for Venice, which is famous for being expensive. Keep in mind that Venice is very compact, so don't feel you have to stay right next to San Marco to be able to get to it quickly. Plus, there's lots more to see than just San Marco.
Do you need your own private bathroom? I can recommend a much less expensive, though clean and roomy place near the train station.
For a double or a triple? I'd recommend Allogi alla Scala, a double is 90 euro and a triple is 110 (unless she's raised her rates in the last 8 months). You won't find a better location either, right next to the Bovolo staircase, about a 5-10 minute walk from both San Marco and the Ponte di Rialto.
Doug, no we don't need a private bathroom. We are 2 women in young twenties that just need something safe and clean. We do need to situate ourselves somewhere near where we can catch the early water bus to the airport though on our departure date. (S. Marco, S. Zaccaria, Fondamenta Nuove, or apparently, the Piazzale Roma). I would love to hear your suggestions! Trying to find a place in Venice is stressing me out. Rik, thanks for the suggestion! I will check it out. I have been looking on cross-pollinate.com (because we are planning on renting an apartment in Paris and Rome), but I've found a small apartment to rent in Venice for 45 euro per person per night. So far this is definitely the cheapest thing I've found that looks decent. Even the hostels are almost this expensive and don't look that great (although I suspect I just haven't found the good ones...maybe?) This place on cross-pollinate is the Studio Canal dei Mendicanti. It's located in Cannaregio. There are some good reviews on tripadvisor. Is this a nice area? People comment that it is within walking distance to everything, but nice because it is definitely outside of the crowds of tourists for the most part. I think we are going to book it! The price is great.
Well, it's a little further away from San Marco and Rialto but you can't argue with the price.
Thanks, everyone! We have a confirmed booking at that studio in Canneregio that I mentioned :)
Cannaregio is a wonderful neighborhood in Venice. Best wishes.
Bethanie that is in a more residential area of Venice and should be quite lovely and much less crowded. You will also be fairly close to the Alilaguna stop at Fondamenta Nove. Try this place if you stay there. Osteria Alla Frasca, Sestiere Cannaregio, 5176 Also to gear up for Venice try watching the movie, Pane e Tulipani (Bread and Tulips) a lot of it was filmed in that general area, I believe. It's available on Netflix.
I've been to Venice several times and stayed in different locations each time. Our last time we stayed at the tip of the island in St Elena. It's definitely THE residential place...lots of trees, grass, parks, families and kids. We loved it. It's probably about a 15 minute walk to San Marco where all of the other throngs of tourists are packed. This is the little B&B where we stayed in St Elena: http://www.bbvenezia.com/ It was wonderful and very cheap. Have a look at these websites for booking hotels: www.yeego.com
www.alpharooms.com We've booked with both of them several times with no problems, and they almost always have much cheaper prices than booking directly with the hotel. Venice Island is not that big so pay more attention to quality of your hotel/B&B rather than location. Check out the ratings on TripAdvisor also.
It will be hard to get under 100 Euro per night in the summer. If it gets decent reviews (check out tripadvisor), go for it. Venice is very walkable, we used the Traghetti and Vapporetti when the need arose but mostly strolled (as opposed to hiked).
Check out "Ca' Riccio". www.cariccio.com/
When we stayed there it was 90 euro per notte. Nice, quaint, clean, and centrally located. The young people who run it are exceptionally nice. It is in the Canneregio neighbor hood of Venice, minutes away from Piazza San Marco. It is off the beaten path, so you wont be elbow to elbow with all the touristi, but near all of the main sites. It's located in a real neighborhood with real people living there. The place is more of a small hotel than someone's home. It is just around the corner from Campo di Miracoli and near Fondamente Nove. Very convenient. It is listed on the B&B website www.cross-pollinate.com.
You could do some research at tripadvisor.com and look for the client reviews. Buon viaggio,
Ray, the Ca' Riccio Hotel has an independent studio flat that they rent out, and that is where we are staying ;)
