edi's apt. in riomaggiore - no voucher?

i have been emailing with edi regarding booking an apt. with her in october. to reserve the room, she asked for my credit card and said i would pay cash when i stay.

she didn't send a voucher confirming the reservation as all other places i'm staying in italy have done. should i be concerned or are vouchers not normally sent by edi.

any information would be much appreciated. (also, if you have stayed at one of edi's apartments in the cinque terre, would love to hear about your experience!)

grazie!

Jennifer,

I'm assuming from your wording that you told Edi that you will be paying cash, and therefore haven't provided your credit card number?

Even if you intend on paying cash for your room, lodging operators usually want a credit card no. to secure the room. If the guest doesn't show up, this gives them the option to charge for one night.

A confirmation is normally provided by E-mail. If you haven't received anything, I doubt that your reservation has been accepted.

Cheers!

sorry i wasn't too clear in my post. i DID provide my credit card # just to hold the room (and will pash cash when i actually stay). after sending this information, edi replied with an email just saying "thank you and best regards. edi" so, i know she received my credit card info...i just assumed she would have also sent a confirmation or voucher rather than just "thanks!".

The reservation process in Vernazza seems to be pretty informal. I've not stayed with Edi, but made a reservation at a similar lodging last week. The woman simply told me I had a confirmed reservation and asked that I call back one week in advance to reconfirm. Her word is the only guarantee I got, but I think ones word still means a lot in a place like Vernazza.

i'm thinking you're probably right about how informal it is in the cinque terre, just thought i'd double check...

thanks!

When she sent my confirmation, she said that she had received the faxed credit card info, she thanked me, and told me where to locate their office.

I think you are OK.

It's very rare for a small hotel, B&B, or pension to have a formalized reservation system. In our experience, the "thank you" reply is more than sufficient.

jennifer,

It's also possible that Edi might have limited ability to write in English, so it's the best response she could provide?

As the others have said, your reservation is probably secured, but if you're really concerned you could always confirm via E-mail a week or two before arrival.

Hope you have an awesome visit to the Cinque Terre!

thanks so much for all the responses. i am sure all will be great - especially since rick specifically mentions that edi's apartments is part of his 'best practices' initiative.

thanks to all for settling my jitters!

We used Edi last September for our stay in Riomaggiore. I used my credit card online to hold the room about six weeks before the trip. I paid cash in full when we checked out, forgetting that I had used my credit card for a one night deposit.

I realized the overpayment when I got home and saw the credit card statement.
I immediately emailed Edi and they credited back the charge to card. The room was nice and they were very reputable.

We are leaving tomorrow for our trip to Italy and will staying at edi's apartments at the end of our trip. They have been very quick about their responses to our emails. I re-confirmed all of our hotel reservations by email yesterday and received a quick response from everyone, including edi's.

I've printed off copies of all the confirmed reservations to take with me on the trip.

We have been looking for a place in the CT with no success until I read these postings on Monday night. I sent an inquiry to Edi and received a quick response that they have a small apt available for the nights we will be there at the end of this month. It has a BR with a double bed, a kitchen with a single bed and a bath, with a price of 100 Euros per night. It's for me, my wife and her mother and so far we've tried to avoid the "hotel" hotels in Monterosso and Levanto. Can anyone who stayed with Edi tell me if this is a good deal and how do we get to their place from the train (coming from Florence midday)? Also, since we've never done this before, what expectations should we have about the accommodations compared to the US? Thanks.

Jennifer,
We are going to Riomaggiore in July and want to book ahead because of the crowd. Did you enjoy edi's apartments? Do you have a phone number or email address for Edi's? I have googled it and can not find one. A friend stayed there and said she enjoyed it but didn't have contact information. I would appreciate what ever info you have.

I have used Edi before, and just to be clear for others sake, it is not a "Place". Edi's is a room and apartment broker so to speak, representing apartments and rooms that could be anywhere in the town, probably owned by a variety of people. There is an office on the main street where you can contact them and pay. My own experience was very nice and I would probably go that route again. Copies of your e-mail trail is sufficient confirmation. One issue you may run into though, they may be reluctant to make a reservation for two people for a couple nights far in advance and for the busy season. They would much prefer a group renting for a week for the larger apartments. However, calling the day before or dropping in may yield a great room at a low price.

we've rented multiple times with edi, and the process has been identical to what you've experienced- she sends an email confirming your room, and you head up past the Bar Centrale and drop off your passports- and Domenico will generally walk you to your room. They're very casual, and nice- somtimes the office is closed (because they're walking someone else to a room) so go to Ivo's (Bar Centrale) for a prosecco, or catch some lunch at the Pizzeria just a few steps up the road-
