Eating Italy Food Tour -Rome - Testaccio

Has anyone taken the eatingitalyfoodtour.com 4 hour food tour in the Testaccio neighborhood in Rome? We may need to do it the day we arrive.
Thank you!

Hi Cathy, yes our group of four took it in April 2012. Loved every minute of it and good value for ticket price. It's itinerary may have changed a bit since the old market closed and the new one opened. I recall that we started about 10:00 am , there were 12 of us , the max. for a group and ended approx. 2:00 pm. In addition to the various stops for food tastings, we also had a bit of a mini historical tour as well. Fascinating! What are your questions or concerns? Sherry

Just reiterating what Sherry said. We took that tour about a year ago and had a wonderful time. Great food (and lots of it-go hungry!) and a lovely basic walking tour of the neighborhood; informative and well-done and great value for the cost. I think you'll enjoy it!

We took the Eating Italy, Twilight Trastevere tour last year. It was amazing! I highly recommend taking the tour one of the first days in Rome. There are so many places we would have returned to if we had taken the tour at the beginning of our trip! We are going to London in three weeks and have signed up for their Twilight Soho food tour! So excited! I know you will enjoy it!

There are lots of positive reviews on Trip Advisor. I learned about it the Twilight Trastevere Tour on this forum and was told they sell out fast so book as soon as you know your dates. BOY am I glad I listened to this advise! I booked our tour last week for October, and our date/time slot is now sold out! So once you have your dates book it ASAP!

I did this tour and also the Twilight Trastevere Food tour this past May. Not on the same day as you would be unable to eat that much in one day. Both were outstanding in seeing 2 different neighborhoods in Rome and tasting the local fare. The Testaccio tour was a bit more off the beaten path as the cab driver didn't have a good idea where it was, which for me was a plus. Also it seems all the maps of Rome cut off Testaccio or else I would have taken a walk there. The new market is lovely and we picked up some freshly chopped tomatoes at one fresh veggie booth, took that to the bread booth where we rubbed garlic on toast and then spread the tomatoes that had basil in it on the toast. Wow. Then we went to the mozzarella booth and did a capresse with the tomatoes. again, wow. Flavio Al Velavevodetto was wonderful with pasta dishes and save room for the gelato at Giolitti. With the history, other tour members and the food, it was all a wonderful time. Enjoy.

Just to jump in with a question -- Are you on your feet most of the time? I think it's ten stops in 4 hours. So are you eating every half hour? Not sure how these work.

We did the Twilight Trastevere Food Tour in May and it was by far the highlight of our week stay in Rome. Definitely recommend doing it early in your stay because you will want to go back to some places again. It was a good mix of being on your feet and sitting down. I'd say about 40% of the places we stopped had seating.

Carolyn. As I recall for the Testaccio tour, except for the stop at the Market, we were sitting every time we ate a meal or snack-and there were quite a few stops. The walking wasn't any more than any other walking tour. I haven't been on the Twilight Trastevere tour but when I return to Rome I would certainly book it based on my experience with their Testaccio food tour.

We booked our Twilight Travestere tour for our first night in Rome (coming from Venice that morning). I'm so excited, I think that is the tour we are actually looking the most forward to. I'm so glad everyone loved it.

Thank you for the feedback. I wanted to take the Twilight Trastevere tour, but I am traveling with friends and their travel agent could only book us the Testaccio 4 hour tour. I wanted to know if it is just as good as the Twilight Trastevere tour. I wanted the twilight/evening tour so that our day was free, and I thought it would be fun doing an evening tour. We (3) arrive on a Monday, and our friends (6) arrive on a Wednesday at 7am. I'm going to ask them about taking the tour the day they arrive. We are leaving Rome on Saturday, and they already have a colosseum tour booked on Thursday, and I don't want to take the tour on our last day. We are also hoping to take a sidetrip to Pompeii on Friday.

By the way, the walking portion is not a problem. We are used to walking.

Some of my friends and I are a bit of a "Foodie", and there are a couple of American Italians in our group who haven't been to Rome, and we would really enjoy getting to know Rome through food, eating like locals. I think this would be a great way for them to start their trip.

Thank you so much for your feedback. This forum has been very helpful.

I am booked to take the Twilight tour later this month. I am so excited. I have read and reread the reviews. I think I found out about it on the forum. Sadly, we can't do the tour right at the beginning of our trip, had to select a free night. I wanted to do the cooking lesson, but couldn't swing it.

I have also booked a bike tour using a recommendation from the forum, Top Bike. We took a bike tour last April in Amsterdam, had such a wet blast that we decided to do it again. This time we will be wet, but not from rain.:) Hot temps! We are on our 6th day of 100+ temps, I should be used to it, not!!

We took the Testaccio tour a couple years ago and it was great!! We went back twice to the different places the tour took us to, just to purchase more delicious things. This fall, we are doing the Twilight tour with friends and even though we have stayed twice in the trastevere area, I'm really looking forward to finding some great new spots, through this tour.
