For Venice, I taped Bizarre Foods (travel channel) to get the name of some good local small mom and pop restaurants in Venice.

Did you watch the show yet?? Sue, when do you leave? We don't go until the first week of June so if you go first, we'd love to know where you went! We'll do the same if we go first.

We visited Verona on a holiday, so a majority of recommended places were closed up. A block off of piazza Bra, we circled back to a place we had seen earlier in our searches and were pleasantly rewarded with a great meal at Trattoria Liston. It's immediately next door to a RS recommendation, Enotecca Cangrande... but his directions to it are not great, to say the least.

We were in Venice in October and just watched the show and were surprised that we had eaten at two of the places he visited and had been to another restaurant that specialized in the crabs! We had lunch at Gatto Nero on Burano (where Andrew had the fish risotto) and it was fantastic. The risotto is really that good (it was also featured on Jamie Oliver's recent show on Venice). We had snacks once and lunch once at the cicchetti bar Andrew went to with the gondolier, Vini al Bottegon aka "Gia Schiavi" on San Trovaso. VERY good. We also had cicchetti at All'Arco, which was also very good. We had the crabs at Antiche Carampane and it was a fantastic dinner! We also splurged one night and had dinner at Il Ridotto. The food was very good but the service was a little slow - but it was their first night opening after being closed for rennovations. We also had a wonderful lunch at Naranzaria near the Rialto Market, in an upstairs room overlooking a canal. I think they also had outdoor seating if you are going when the weather is warmer! We didn't eat IN Verona but we stopped at the Giardino Giusti on Via Giardino Giusti - a "must-do" if you are in the area.
If you have a car while you are in Verona, I highly recommend having a lovely lunch at Trattoria Tre Scalini on Via Castelo in Montegalda nearby.

I found an article called "Top 10 budget eats in Verona... from cosy little wine bars to romantic riverside trattorie" by John Brunton, Guardian.co.uk, Feb. 8, 2011. Looks great!
