Hi! I'm looking for suggestions of where to eat around the Pompeii site. Rick isn't very encouraging about the restaurants between the entrance and the train station and he said the onsite restaurant may still be closed for refurbishing.
The on site cafeteria (and icecream bar) opened about a year ago. It is run by the Autogrill organisation (they provide food at motorway service stations) and does hot snacks and basic meals. Have not eaten there as we tend to take picnics these days but their service station food is not bad. The icecream was good! There is also a, often overlooked, snack bar kiosk with plastic tables just before you exit at the Porta Marina end of the site. It has been open whenever I have been there in May and early October.
We ate at the outdoor restaurant directly across from the entrance. The pizza was good, but all we wanted was a quick bite b-4 going into Pompeii. Not every meal can be an experience of a lifetime; sometimes it has to just be practical, hopefully good and a good value. GOOD LUCK:)
Thanks Linda and Miguel, I'm not looking for anything fancy, just somewhere good and reasonable so I appreciate your advice. We'll be daytripping from Rome so we plan to bring snacks but didn't want to trouble with trying to figure out what to pack for lunch.
