easyjet Venice - Paris

I have booked an Easyjet flight departing Venice Marco Polo at 13:20 on a Friday in July and am wondering if arriving at Marco Polo at 11:30 will be early enough? I have paid to select my seat and have paid for 23 kg of luggage (even though I am sure my bag will be underweight) just to avoid hassles (of which there are apparently many) at check-in. There is a flight a few hours later the same day, so if my flight is really late, I am hoping to get on the later flight. I have heard inconsistent reviews of easyjet, so am hoping RS posters might be able to quell some of my anxiety! If you have any experience with flying Easyjet out of Marco Polo, I would love to hear from you. Grazie!

Susan,

I've never flown with easyJet out of VCE but I have from other airports on many occasions. They're my preferred budget airline in Europe, and I check them first whenever I'm planning a flight. I also like to pay for the next weight tier at the time of booking, as my Backpack is typically close to the limit and I'd rather give myself a "cushion" to avoid exorbitant charges at the gate.

"just to avoid hassles (of which there are apparently many) at check-in."

I've never found that easyJet had any more hassles than other airlines, and I've always found travelling with them to be "easy" (so far). There likely won't be any check-in as they're just using a bag drop at most airports now. You'll be able to check in and print your boarding pass up to a month before travel. As I recall, I opted for Speedy Boarding on my last flight, and it was an improvement.

One important point to mention is that they only allow ONE carry-on item per passenger, of the approved size (weight doesn't matter as long as you can lift it). That doesn't mean one plus a personal item such as a purse or laptop case, it means ONE ONLY! As long as you're prepared for that, it shouldn't be a problem.

So you are flying into Venice and then catching the easyjet flight? Where does your first flight originate? Will you need to clear customs & immigration?

Are you connecting flights? Or are you visiting Venice? Venice airport is very small and manageable, so two hours there should be plenty of time. But you can never expect an airline, especially a budget airline, to put you on a later flight unless the delay was their fault.

When I booked two Easy Jet flights with a connection at Rome (because of hasty purchasing followed by a change of plan), they told me, for instance that they could not check my luggage through because they are "strictly a point-to-point carrier." In that instance, my layover was plenty long to collect and recheck my bag.

"There is a flight a few hours later the same day, so if my flight is really late, I am hoping to get on the later flight"

Please read the Ts&Cs for your ticket, see below for missed flights.

"If You arrive late at the airport for Your Flight, provided You arrive within 2 hours of Your original Flight’s departure time, You should proceed to the easyJet Sales Desk or Customer Services Desk (if any) to find out if it is possible to transfer. Subject to the payment of a Rescue Fee set out in Our Fees and Charges (currently 80 euro pp), we will transfer you to the next Flight that has seats available and where it would not cause a delay to the Flight’s departure. "

They have now introduced flight insurance to cover such an eventuality

PS - they are strict with their Gate closing times.

Thanks for your responses. I will be arriving in Venice 2 weeks prior to my Easyjet flight, staying with relatives, then going back to VCE Marco Polo to catch my Easyjet flight to Paris. I will be sure to arrive early. My anxiety about the flight is that rumour has it that many Easyjet flights have delayed departures. Also, I have heard that checking in luggage at Marco Polo is a bit messy. I am familiar with the Marco Polo airport so that isn't a problem. If you have flown out of Marco Polo recently on an Easyjet flight, please let me know how it went.
