I have a seat booked on an easyJet flight from Naples to Palermo on October 19th and have been notified by them I can check in now. Unfamiliar with such an early check in, is this routine by easyJet? Any hurry or when I get around to it?

There is no hurry; that is just routine, the way they do it; not every airline is the same. Some like to checkin early so it is one less thing to do. They are one of the most successful airlines in Europe.
