EasyJet Airline

Thinking of getting on an economic airline from Milan to Amsterdam. Have you taken the EasyJet before? Is this a reliable and safe service provider?

Hi Mike,

Here's a recent interesting post about discount airlines:

Favorite European Discount Airline

We've flown EasyJet a couple of times with no problem--just pack light and don't expect any frills!

Thank you all! You both boost my confidence level and I will definitely give it a try.

Checked their web site, one carry-on luggage only. Does this work like US airline - one carry-on, with a backpack? Will a RS 21" carry-on fit?

Thanks again!

I took 2 separate flights on EasyJet to get to Zurich last month. From Madrid going to London Gatwick, boarding took forever as gate agents had many folks (if they suspected their carry-on was too big) put their carry-on in this luggage checker to see if meets size requirements. If it fits then great, if not, then it has to be checked in at a fee. So it caused the flight time to be late. There was even a bigger delay getting off the ground and we were told a cancellation could be possible. But thank heavens, we were able to depart even after an 1hr delay. I was not sure of what the caused it. From London Gatwick to Zurich, it was all smooth. I still would take EasyJet

When I flew EasyJet last year, an employee just eyeballed my RS wheeled "carry-on" bag and said "too big." A passenger ahead of me had a big, lumpy bag on her back and was told it was too big and she said, "I can make it smaller." They let her thru. I noticed that the available space for carry-on bags is less on EasyJet than on our bigger airlines. I think they just force you to check bags when they figure the space is all probably gone. It may help to be one of the first to check in if you have a bag that you think is within their carry-on size limits.

Easyjet no longer has a carry-on weight restriction. If you can lift it, you can carry it.

The RS wheeled bag is over the allowed limits on Easyjet.

If you're talking about the non-wheeled RS 21" bag, you should be fine.

Easyjet allows dimensions of 21.6 x 15.7 x 7.8

So as long as you don't pack too thick, you should be able to carry-on. There is no weight restriction.

Easy Jet would NOT let my 21" RS bag as a carry-on (Milan to Catania). The website specifically stated a size restriction as Frank II listed. But, they went by weight at the check-in counter (Sept '08). Other than having to pay an extra $50 to check my bag (doubling my ticket price), I didn't have any other problems with the airline. It even landed on time.

And, as you should always do with this site, just take this as one person's experience.

I had the same experience with EasyJet. They took one glance at my RS bag and said too big. They did not charge me for checking it, but when we got to Paris they took forever to unload the bags off the plane. I would fly them again. Seating is similar to Southwest Airlines.

Mike,

In most cases, European airlines only allow ONE carry-on bag of the approved size and weight (I've noticed that some of the metal "sizing frames" are now equipped with a scale on the bottom where the bag sits). That doesn't mean one carry-on plus a "personal item" such as a Laptop or Purse, it means ONE only!

I checked the EasyJet web site a few days ago (researching my next trip), and it specified carry on dimensions as 55 cm (21.6") x 40 cm (15.7") x 20 cm (7.8"). Whether they always choose to enforce those limits is another matter.

My opinion regarding EasyJet is the same as some of the others have expressed. IMO, they're one of the best of the Euro "budget" airlines, and thankfully they use "real airports"! Flying into CDG is MUCH preferred to Beauvais!

Happy travels!
