We want to spend 4-5 days in a quiet village in the Dolomites and go for easy 2-3 miles walks in the mountains. Are there cable cars available to go up in the mountains(we are in our 70s and can't climb. But once we go up a little bit, would love to walk in beautiful surroundings. Is that possible? Please suggest some places where we can do this, preferably closer to Bolzano.
Hi. There is a funicular from right in Bolzano (Bozen) to Oberbozen. Once there, there is a nice walk - or more than one - that is fairly flat, as I recall. You might want to google this. I have been there twice. In Oberbozen, there is a small train, too, but I do not recall the particulars. I have some lovely photos from my walk. Fun, also, to see the grape vines as the funicular heads up.
I think Val Gardena is your answer. Look up the website Valgardena.it. All your answers are there. We were there in June. Just spectacular. We stayed in Selva. Perfect 👌
Ortisei offers what you're looking for. Take a gondola or funicular up, and enjoy beautiful walks in the mountains.
Bolzano isn't "in" the Dolomites. Take a bus into the Val Gardena. Stay in Ortisei, St. Christina or Selva. They are all close together and easy by bus to get around. Plenty of great cable car trips to the top of the Dolomites. The Mont Seuc/Seiser Alm cable car from Ortisei offers easy walks on paved paths with a Dolomite backdrop.
