Has anyone rented a bike for independently touring the countryside, visiting smaller nearby villlages or towns? While in Umbria, I am staying in Orvieto and Perugia so would be nice to pick up a bike in either of these locations. My daughter is an expert cyclist but I am more of an occasional bike rider so easy rides would be best. I would expect to pick up a bike in the lower sections of these locations. Rent an e-bike. Just google rental for bikes in Orvieto and Perugia and see what pops up. Hills around both towns are “hilly”. Of course if you pick up a bike in the newer, lower part of either town you won’t have to climb the hill to the city center. We’ve ridden Umbria and Tuscany and there is nothing super easy about the hills there, an e-bike will certainly make your day more enjoyable.

Thanks, I looked into a few companies that rent e-bikes as well. Just wondering more about particular routes.

All the roads are pretty bike friendly as long as you stay off the highways. Get a map, or better yet, when you rent a bike ask the shop for a route map and suggestions. We’ve done self guided multi day trips all over Italy, there are plenty of quiet back roads
