We're thinking about flying into Sicily & going up the east coast toward Venice. Any suggestions? I don't know yet if we'll take the train or drive but we're open to both.
Mille grazie!
Not knowing where you plan to start your trip up the coast, I will let you use this as you see fit.
I drove the coast road ( SS16) from San Giovanni Rotundo at least as far as Rimini, before heading inland to spend the night at Cesena. We were on our way to Milan.
I found it an interesting drive. Depends on what your time constraints are as to what the better choice is to get to Venice, going 'up the east coast'
Thank you for your response! Did you stop at the small towns along the way?
Your mention of Sicily is very confusing. So you’ll travel in Sicily and then fly to Italy’s east coast and go up to Venice??
Yes, a week or so in Sicily & then get to the east coast.
Your post was confusing in regard to Sicily.
How long are you spending there?
How long is the whole trip? Three weeks?
Sicily needs more than a week.
Yes, about 3 weeks. 1 in Sicily & a couple to go up the coast.
I'd recommend at last two weeks in Sicily, and that's if you're going to have a rental car there. Much less than that and you'll need to settle for just part of the island.
What time of year do you plan to make this trip? Sicily and Puglia are both very hot in the summer.
